I'd definitely like to see some of the systems from this game carried over in the next game.Īt the least, I'm hoping this exceeds sales expectations, because most of the changes I've seen from B元 have been improvements. Honestly, I'm already thinking I'd rather see a sequel to this than BL4. B元 was in a worse state when it launched. I'm actually surprised how bug free it has been so far considering it's Gearbox. Even the issues with cutscenes haven't made me miss anything.ĮDIT: For context regarding the performance, I'm running the game on a 3080 Ti with a Ryzen 3950x, Badass settings 4k and getting 50-60 FPS. Performance has yet to impact gameplay in my case. I've yet to see a crash, but I have seem some camera stutter and slight slowdown during cutscenes. Though there is another supporting character that shows up from the third game, but how they are used works as an easter egg of sorts for that character. Outside of a particularly obnoxious ghost, there hasn't been anything terribly overdone after about five hours of play. It does get a bit meta with the callbacks to B元, especially considering it takes place years before then. Thus, they haven't quite overstayed their welcome and also keep Tina from being overused. They still have a lot to say, but much of the exposition is done by Tina rather than the villain. I think part of this is that they are less chatty. The villain isn't great, it's not another Handsome Jack so don't expect it, but they are better than the Twins were. I am far more invested in the story already than I was at any point in B元. There's a lot to like there and it doesn't get in the way of the rest of the game. The overworld system is something I'd like to see return in future games. The challenge has been more finding the paths than difficulty traversing them. There are some interesting challenges and a lot of collectibles are above ground level. The game expects you to climb around more than B元. Level design is also has a bit more verticality to it so far. They don't behave quite the same as the firearms from the main series. They aren't just ported over from the previous games and have a sort of fantasy feel to them. The weapons have also been interesting so far. I'm not entirely sure, but it seems like it might also impact vending machines in those areas. There is a new system that impacts the drop chances involving finding "dice" that seem to influence the rarity of drops in a particular area, which I think might have something to do with that. I do recall seeing a lot more higher rarity drops in B元 than I'm seeing here at around the same point. I'm not drowning in rarer gear, though I am still early on. Yes, you can respec the same way you did in B元.Įverything about character building is deeper than B元, and it seems like the game is balanced better as well. These work like the "skill tree" system in other Borderlands games, but instead of having only three available, you can pick any two of them. In TTRPG style you pick a main class, and can then get a secondary class later in the game. I'm also really liking the class/hero points systems. The revamped gear system is nice, melee is actually relevant and seems like it will be long term, and spells also seem like they'll remain relevant longer than grenades did in B元.
